Why is the subject important?

The Business GSCE qualification will equip our learners with the skills and confidence to explore how different business situations affect business decisions. This qualification is a well-rounded introduction to the subject. The qualification will encourage learners to make informed choices about a wide range of further learning opportunities and career pathways as well as develop life skills that enables students to become financially and commercially aware.

OCR51ÁÔÆæ™s GCSE (951ÁÔÆæ“1) in Business aims for all our students to:

  • Know and understand business concepts, business terminology, business objectives, the integrated nature of business activity and the impact of business on individuals and wider society
  • Apply knowledge and understanding to contemporary business issues and to different types and sizes of businesses in local, national and global contexts
  • Develop as enterprising individuals with the ability to think commercially and creatively to demonstrate business acumen, and draw on evidence to make informed business decisions and solve business problems
  • Develop as effective and independent students, and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds
  • Use an enquiring, critical approach to make informed judgements
  • Investigate and analyse real business opportunities and issues to construct well-argued, well-evidenced, balanced and structured arguments, demonstrating their depth and breadth of understanding of business
  • Develop and apply quantitative skills relevant to business, including using and interpreting data.

How will I be assessed?

Students will be assessed using three assessments throughout the year 1; these will take place in Term 2, Term 4 and Term 6.51ÁÔÆæ¯The assessments will cover the content students learn within the lesson and will be both knowledge and skill based.ÌýIn year 2 trial exams based on past GCSE papers will be used at key points in the year.
