Phase Three - Be Competitve

In Year 10 and Year 11 students are focused on the following careers aims:Ìý

Be able to bring together both knowledge and skills about next step providers, aspirations and skills to ensure they make the right next steps decisions, have a competitive CV and are equipped in succeeding in the next steps process. Be able to apply and develop professional skills that are required in any sector 51ÁÔÆæ“ professional conduct, organisation, dedication, values and pride.

By the end of Year 11, the programme will have allowed student to:

  • Students can articulate the main local providers

  • Students can articulate the difference between A levels, Vocational Quals, Apprenticeships and T Levels.

  • Students are aware of the qualifications needed for specific next steps routes.

  • All students have a physical CV.

  • All students are aware of how skills, qualifications and aspirations are connected in success into next step routes.

  • All students have applied to a next step provider and have successfully secured a place.

Within Year 11 students will examine the following.Ìý

  • What does a competitive interview look like?Ìý
  • What does a competitive CV look like?ÌýÌý
  • What does a competitive application for next steps look like?Ìý
Mock Interview DayÌý In Year 11 students will have a 51ÁÔÆæ˜mock51ÁÔÆæ™ interview with an external employer. This is to allow students to put their learning into practice in a low-stakes environment, to practice these skills before they attend their next-steps interviews. Students will receive feedback from the employer on areas to improve for the future.ÌýÌý
Be Professional workshopsÌýÌýÌý Across Year 10 students will have workshops to support their ability to apply our professional standards in the working world. For example, a workshop on using digital platforms such as outlook to communicate and organise themselves.

Be Professional career eventsÌý In Year 10 students will have an entire day event in which they will have the opportunity to attend 4 talks with employers working in different sectors. During these sessions students will hear about what their job entails, what a day in the life for them looks like, the advantages and disadvantages look like working in this sector and an opportunity to practice some of the skills / work expected in this field. The sectors we invite in range from plumbers to influencers from primary teachers to police.

CV WritingÌýÌý By the end of Y10 all students will have attended 5 session that focus on:Ìý

  • What is a CV?Ìý
  • What does a competitive CV look like?ÌýÌý
  • Writing a competitive CVÌý

ÌýThis will allow all students to have a competitive CV, ready for when they apply for part-time jobs or their next step opportunities.ÌýÌý

Every Monday, in College Time, Year 10 students will home in on one of our Professional Standards 51ÁÔÆæ“ Conduct, Dedication, Organisation, Pride and Values. Students will explore why this standard is required and expected of them; exploring how these standards can support them in future careers.Ìý
